Recently in a lab, across the world! A tiny mouse size coat was made from living human cells, well once alive, now dead. But, you get the point. In this lab, they are attempting to make what they call, victimless leather. Basically, leather that has come from not killing any animal.
This tiny coat was made to fit a mouse, by using a polymer matrix, that was coated with immortal human cells, that grew around the matrix. This living, yes LIVING, coat they say has limiteless possiblity. However, they call it “art”, an experiment to see how human cells really interact with other living organisms. “…. By de-constructing our cultural meaning of clothes as a second skin through art, we raise questions about our exploitation of other living beings.” Wearing your own skin, as well, another skin a second skin, it makes up think about how we use other living animals to benefit ourselfs and makes us think about how we use them.
